Quansett Farm is a historic horse farm located on the southern coast of Massachusetts. The landscapeis characterized by softly rolling hills, beautiful stone walls, significant and numerous rock outcroppings,and panoramic views of Buzzards Bay as tranquil farmland dramatically meets the sea. The new owner of this property initiated an ambitious project to carefully and sensitively restore both the farm's landscapeand agricultural buildings to recapture and enhance the unique character of the entire farm. The structural

systems of the existing stables and barns were evaluated and restored. Historically appropriate finish materials were utilized to upgrade and properly protect all existing structures.

 

A new master plan for the farm was established in anticipation of renewed equestrian and agricultural activities. All design and reconstruction decisions were guided by a strong desire to restore the propertywith restraint and sensitivity, recognizing and accentuating the existing qualities of the farm and its relationship to the surrounding landscape. The resulting complex of agricultural buildings, equestrian facilities, and landscape features is a restored and unified composition of diverse elements that is

sympathetically integrated into the farm's historic and environmental context.
