A conceptual proposal was developed for a new aquarium in Naples, Italy on a site on the eastern edge of the Gulf of Naples at the base of Mount Vesuvius. The building's form was generated by the path of the sun reinforced by the intention of creating a major solar collector at the center of the building which will be utilized to provide the aquarium's energy requirements.

The simple yet iconic silhouette of the aquarium echoes the form of Mount Vesuvius which can be seen in the distance when viewing the aquarium from the Gulf of Naples. The aquarium's exhibits will be organized to focus on the diverse flora and fauna found in the Mediterranean Sea.
